Classes are offered in the Sunflower Yoga studio. These classes are once per week for an hour at a time.
The studio is set up in a circuit. Each station is set up with a specific excersise designed to build strength.
Individual needs are taken into account when designing the circuit. Everyone starts where they are, perhaps that is with body weight or using heavier loads. Injuries and physical challenges are taken into consideration and planned for. When the participant is confident the loads will gradually increase.
I first started with Jane when my oncologist said I would have problems with bone density loss post chemo. Jane has been amazing. Not only does she understand the problems with aging, with cancer and with just things not working the way they used to, she never pushes beyond my capacity. However, slowly, very slowly over the last 18 months I have gone from dead lifting 10 pounds to 103 pounds at my last session. We do a variety of things to help with muscle and bone density beyond weight lifting. I have to say I was the kid who skipped PE back in high school, so I’m amazed how much I look forward to this one-hour weekly circuit. Thank you, Jane!

I have been attending strength Training classes at Sunflower Yoga since its conception. I can't say enough about the support from Jane and from the group. It's a fun , safe , environment to explore strength training , and the rewards are very noticeable in everyday living.
I've been taking Jane's Progressive Strength Class for over a year now, and it has truly become one of the most valuable parts of my weekly routine. I feel empowered knowing that the strength I'm building now will support me as I grow older… things like carrying groceries, climbing stairs, and even confidently getting up off the ground if I ever take a tumble.
One of the things I appreciate most about Jane is her relaxed, grounding presence. She creates a space that feels encouraging, fun, and completely unintimidating. No matter your ability level, you're welcomed exactly as you are. Jane structures each person's workout based on their individual needs, offering thoughtful modifications for anyone with mobility challenges, joint issues, or joint replacements (which I personally appreciate!).
Beyond the physical benefits, this class has been a wonderful source of stress relief. I always leave feeling more grounded, confident, and in a better mood - like I've accomplished something truly meaningful for my well-being. And the group itself is so supportive and positive that it feels like you're lifting each other up in more ways than one.

Customized weight training program designed to meet your unique situation and goals.
Technical support - ie how to do the exercise.
Regular meetings to discuss your weight training program and to make changes as needed.
(monthly in-person or online meetings)
Access to an app to record your strength training workouts, and to ask questions.
Build up capacity to lift heavier things, ie. groceries, children, grandchildren, kayaks, items around the house.... what ever you need to lift.
Build stronger bones. Lifting weights puts stress on the bones. This stress causes the bones to increase bone density which is helpful to avoid osteoporosis.
It can help improve balance.
It can increase your metabolism to help you burn more calories.
Some studies show that it can improve your cognitive abilities.
During our initial meeting we will discuss what you are wanting to get out of your strength building program. Your program will be built around these desires. Your current strength level, and mobility level will be factored into your program.
You will need to have access to some weights of varying sizes. Alternatively you have access to a home or community gym. Your access to equipment will also be factored into your program.
Typically we will meet monthly to discuss your progress. More frequent sessions are also available for an increased charge. Use of the Sunflower fitness studio is also available - feel free to reach out to discuss the possibilities.
As a Movement and Self Care Coach she has developed a keen body awareness, both of herself and her clients.
Four years ago Jane experienced a series of physical challenges that affected her mobility. Although her yoga practice was still very helpful she felt she needed something more. This coupled with an osteoporosis diagnoses lead her to start a progressive strength training program. She had been studying with Kathryn of Mindful Strength for many years. Kathryn is a formal yoga teacher that turned to strength training to assist her to recover from various injuries. Kathryn went on to become an Olympic weight lifter and a personal mentor.
Jane started to incorporate more light strength training into her yoga classes. She found this helpful but also felt that a more specific weight training program was necessary. She has been working on building her own strength for a couple of years now and is thrilled with the results. She started sharing the progressive strength training with small groups in her studio, while continuing to train under Kathryn.
She has now completed a 6 month coach strength training program and is ready to offer one - on - one sessions. The benefits that she has felt in her own body, as well as those she has witnessed in her group strength classes inspires her to bring this program to others.
The initial meeting will last 1-2 hours and cost $100.00 This will include the setting up of your program, as well as the demonstration of the exercises.
This meeting can be in the Sunflower Studio, or from you home via Zoom.
The monthly follow up sessions will be booked after the initial meeting. The cost of the follow up sessions is $65.00 and will be charged to your credit card monthly. These monthly sessions can take place in the Sunflower Studio or from your home via Zoom.
More frequent sessions, as well as use of the Sunflower weight training equipment can also be discussed.
